The night of the investigation was fairly mild for October; did soon change though. Upon arriving and meeting with the team I was instantly recognised by some of the team members who had a nice chat with me; obviously had made a good impression in the past. Before investigations had even begun I heard that one of the team members had possibly seen a ghost in the dungeon whilst setting up. Anyway to the point, we started our first investigation at 10pm and headed for a room that had never been allowed to be investigated before called the Blue Room; a fairly small room with fine blue silks draped on the walls. It was here we conducted our first Ouija board session of the night. After building the energy the planchette swiftly began to move. Soon we began to get intelligent responses but the spirit seemed to struggle to spell its name, we believed it was the spirit of a child. The investigator with us was a medium and he sensed it was a little girl. By this point I had begun to feel a very cold breeze blow on my left hand as if of cold breath, whilst sensing that maybe a spirit was stood next to me. When I felt this sense I told the medium about feeling someone stand next to me and he replied saying that the spirit of the little girl was running around me. We confirmed this using the Ouija board asking the spirit to move the planchette to where they stood and it moved next to me where I had sensed a presence. Soon after the medium sensed another spirit standing watching in the doorway and before he had said I had occasionally been looking in the direction of the door. The highlight of the first Ouija board of the night was the game we played with the spirit. We had several different coloured stones and hid them around the room. We asked the spirit to move the planchette in the direction of where each coloured stone was hidden and every time the planchette moved to exactly where it was. Later on that night we heard from one of the other groups who investigated that room that the child was called Abigale.
From here we moved to the Tower to try another Ouija board. We had no movement on the Ouija board this time. The only thing experienced here was a few cold spots and a couple of inaudible EVPS. I did feel a cold spot on my left leg and hand and so did the lead investigator but not at the same time. So we moved to the dungeon and did another Ouija board there. This was the one place I would have expected to have felt a heavy presence or atmosphere and yet it felt calm. We had no response here either so soon went back to meet with the other groups at base camp.
The second vigil we headed to a large area of rooms set up as store rooms, workshops and stables. We began our walk around of this big area going off by ourselves seeking out what we feel and think might be hotspots for activity. Whilst walking around I was taking lots of photos with the hope of catching a spirit on camera and in one room, which I felt a heavy presence all around me and could smell a strong smell of stale urine, I caught a picture of an orb. On later review I realised the significance of this feeling and capturing the orb as later on the girls saw a huge ball of white light appear and disappear in that room. The room from what I could see looked like a workshop with its tables; crossbows on the walls and tools everywhere.
In the first room we gathered again. Whilst we had been walking around the medium had been picking up on a presence in the first room. This is why we all came back to the first room. On the left side of the room was a mock fire place setup. The medium had detected a vortex of energy/ presence standing before it. First off we got the K2s, REM PODS, EVP Recorders, Dowsing Rods and Mel Metres. Unfortunately the activity on the devices was very little, so the medium asked for volunteers to stand inside the vortex of energy. I volunteered myself first and as I stepped inside it I felt pins and needles stabbing me in the end of my fingertips like static electricity. After I had tried a few others tried and one of them had quite an alarming reaction. When stood with in the vortex he had a massive headache, but the moment he left the vortex it instantly dissipated. Other than something to do with his energy and the spirit energy fighting against each other I cannot explain why it happened.
We moved from here back to the room I had felt the strongest presence in and got the kit out again. The equipment proved very good here, my Mel Metre was constantly fluctuating a whole degree in temperature from 67.0 Fahrenheit through 67.3, 67.5 to even 68.7, which is a massive fluctuation. After a while the group spilt into male and female and went off into adjacent rooms; the women were in the room where I had captured the orb on camera and had sensed a heavy presence. Us boys were in the room with the stables and cobbled floor. In our groups we conducted a human pendulum session. I was hoping it would be me the spirit chose to talk through, but it wasn’t. The medium, who was conducting our human pendulum, soon began to sense a name as the movement began. Henry was the name and it was confirmed by the spirit pushing the bloke in the centre of the circle forward which meant yes. We started to learn that he was a royalist and that he had gone to battle promising his mother he would return safely. Unfortunately he didn’t return safely. With every question we asked the movement became stronger to the point he was nearly falling over in the centre of the circle. We also noticed a change is his mood becoming very emotional and looking tearful. The guilt this spirit felt for not returning safely had been keeping him trapped between worlds, so with the help of the medium we summoned up a lot of positive energy and managed to send this soldier to the light. As Henry crossed over the air around the circle completely changed as well as a great calming presence falling upon us. I could feel cold air going down my body and into the ground. Whilst this had been happening the girls in the next room had all seen a massive white light appear before them and disappear as soon as it had come. I do wish I had seen it. We had reached the end of our second vigil and it was about 2am when we made it back to basecamp.
On the third vigil we entered into a grander part of the castle with long carpeted corridors leading to bedrooms, a library, sitting rooms and even a grand gallery overlooking the great hall. Fine paintings and luxurious furnishings were in every room. On our walk around I captured the best photo evidence of the night of a huge orb floating in mid-air next to a door. That was the best bit of the third vigil as all seemed very calm and quiet. The majority of the EVPS we captured were inaudible. Though I was amazed when a group of us came across a localized freezing cold spot standing by a door, especially when all the air around it was warm; we could not find a natural explanation and I am sure a spirit was stood there. In the Library we came across a young boy called Harry speaking to us by EVP. A lot of the questions we asked we couldn’t decipher the answers but we knew enough. He wanted help to find his family so we did another human pendulum and helped him to cross over to his family.
At 4am we got the chance to do a lone walk around. As of yet I hadn’t been to the bear pit and neither had any of the other groups so I decided to go there by myself. The bear pit was used for the entertainment of Warwick Castle’s families and friends. Bears were chained to walls and dogs sent in to attack them, the watching people would place bets on which dog would cause the bear to cry out in pain for their entertainment. Whilst I was in there a Haunted Evenings team member joined me and we did an EVP session. We captured a crystal clear EVP when we asked what this place was used for clearly saying “bear pit.” Was the best EVP of the night.
Warwick Castle had not been as active as I had thought it would be, or as I had allegedly heard, but even though I had captured and witnessed some great evidence at this amazing location. Definitely a place I will return to just to see if the activity is any different.
