Graisley Old Hall Investigation, Friday the 17th of May 2024

Although Graiseley Old Hall is extremely old, much of its history remains hidden. As far as we know, a few records state a building on the land since the 1300s, maybe even older. In the 1600s, the property was owned by one of Oliver Cromwell’s peacekeepers, who lost ownership of the house when he used it to pay for a gambling debt. The building is known better for very weird and unexplainable phenomena that the owner and guests have witnessed on many occasions. In the hall, water has been found to have appeared in just one spot, always the same spot. Experts from all industries have looked into it, and no one has an answer for why it is happening. The house is more commonly known as The House That Cries because of this.

The parts of the house we had access to were quite small and easy to find your way around, so we jumped straight into the investigation. We began in the red room with a watch-and-wait experiment. Apart from a slight distraction from a badger running across the lawn outside the window, we were all really focused because the activity in the room was incredible. From the moment we had set up our kit around the room, the K2 metres were spiking, but it wasn’t a constant spike, which ruled out that it was just residual EMF in the air. When all three flashed, they flashed simultaneously, even though they were positioned as far as possible from each other. They also only seemed to flash when we had asked a question.

The entire time we were in this room, we heard bangs from above us. It sounded very much like someone walking around. However, I cannot say this is paranormal because a lodger who lives upstairs could have been walking around in his room. The organisers said he is normally very quiet in his room, but that doesn’t prove to me anymore that it was paranormal. As a paranormal investigator, part of the job is to try and debunk any witnessed activity. Only then, when you can’t debunk, you can start to think was that paranormal.

Some people said they heard voices in here, but I didn’t hear a thing. I am not saying they didn’t, but I will say there were a lot of bodies in one small space with grumbly tummies. What I found interesting was a localised cold spot around a woman’s legs. I asked her to step forward from that spot a couple of feet. I asked her to do this to see if the cold spot was just in the one spot. Interestingly enough, she instantly felt the coldness around her legs disappear when she moved. As far as we could see, there was no explanation for the cold spot. After this, the K2 in my hand spiked at the same time I felt a cold breeze at about waist height glide past in front of me. In my experience, that definitely seemed to be a spirit, possibly the same one that caused the cold spot around the woman.

We headed upstairs next. As we did so, one of the organisers stopped us in our tracks and asked if anyone had closed the door to the red room when we left. No one said they had closed it. I checked, and the door didn’t move on its own. It makes you wonder if our presence is an annoyance to the spirits and they are trying to shut us out.

We conducted another watch-and-wait experiment in one of the bedrooms, lining the floor with cat balls, K2s, and a music box. The music box emits a laser beam, and if anything walks across the laser beam, it indicates this by playing music. They are a great piece of kit. All our other equipment in this room remained quiet, though the music box was picking up something. It was a small room, so we did move it just in case we were a bit close to it. It triggered again after we had moved it, and now we have eradicated any of us triggering it. I sensed a little female child in the room who wanted to play with it. It was like someone running up to it, touching it, and then running away again because they found it funny. That is what I was feeling. The activity eventually faded so we finished up in this room and moved to the next to do table tipping.

We moved onto some table tipping in the children’s bedroom at the back of the house. The first thing I noticed in this room was how the room felt different from the bedroom we had just been in. The previous bedroom had felt very calm and safe, but this room didn’t feel like a happy place. Stern is the word I would use to describe it.

Shortly after asking the spirits to tip the table as a sign of their presence, the table started to tip very slowly and creak loudly. As I encouraged the spirit to lift the table more, it gradually picked up the pace and lifted right onto two legs, nearly falling over. It then started to spin clockwise on the spot. But then the activity and the energy in the room completely changed. The table fell to the floor and would do nothing more than creak. This new energy felt angry and fierce. I realised then that one of the women around the table was a psychic as she described the spirit who had been rocking the table as a little girl, and she was now hiding underneath the table. As she said this, the air around my legs and underneath the table went ice cold instantly. We tried to get the table to rock for yes and no questions to find out why the child was hiding, but we got no response. I started to sense that this new energy was a male spirit, not a nice male. I could sense where he was standing and his dislike towards the child speaking with us. He was controlling and hated it when he didn’t have control. According to the other medium, he disliked me because he couldn’t control me. Even with this said, he still wouldn’t leave when I told him to. The table didn’t move again, and eventually, I felt the child spirit leave. We moved to another room to try an Ouija board.

We were back in the red room for the Ouija board. I developed a sharp headache around my frontal lobe the moment I stepped into the room, which is never a good sign. It can often be a sign of a negative entity. We continued with caution when conducting the Ouija board. The activity was immediate on the board. They were adamant that they were fifty years old, but any other answer to our questions was just a jumble of letters. We asked if the spirit could spell, and it said yes. At this point we decided they would just mess us about, so we closed the Ouija board. I tried to contact a different spirit, but the same spirit would not allow anything else to come through.

I ventured off alone after this. As the equipment had been proving to be the best form of communication on that night, I found a quiet room and set up my equipment. The air was very calm in the first room, and I got no results. I then ventured to another room that had been a hotspot throughout the night. I set up my equipment once more and called out. The equipment, however, was quiet, which was the first time it had been in this room. However, I did not leave this room because a knocking kept happening, and I could not find a natural source. After a little while, a couple of the other people came to join me, including the psychic, and with the combined energy, we started to pick up an energy in the room that was not ours. With that, I decided we should try table tipping to focus the energy to try and connect with whoever was with us. This resulted better than I had hoped it would. The moment we touched the table, the table was rocking back and forth sharply. It started walking around the room when we asked where do you want us to go. It came to a stop next to the bed. We didn’t find anything more about why it had stopped there. The psychic managed to connect with the spirit and told us it was the spirit of a little child who had been talking to us earlier. I was dumbfounded when I felt invisible ice-cold arms around my legs, hugging me. The psychic told me the spirit likes you because you protected her from the male spirit earlier. For me, that was the best evidence of the night.

For the rest of the time in this room, I decided to try an experiment with the mirror. I wasn’t sure if it would work, but I gave it a good try. The results were pretty outstanding and unexplainable. I stood about seven feet from the mirror, looking at it directly. I took several photos as fast as possible, asking a spirit to show themselves in the mirror next to me. There is one photo where it looks like there is a very clear woman’s face. All of us in the room went to extreme lengths to try and debunk it. We tried repeating the same photo on everyone’s phone, which produced nothing similar to what I had captured. We tried looking for dirt on the wall opposite the mirror or dirt on the mirror. There was some dust and finger marks on the mirror, but as far as we could see, nothing that would give the appearance of a face. What had us scratching our heads was that if it had just been muck on the mirror, it would have appeared in every photo, which it doesn’t. I will add the photo to the gallery page. It is well worth a look. I would very much appreciate any comments on the photo.

We only had one area left to investigate, which was the basement. Although it was very dark and close in the basement, I didn’t feel anything that made me suspect there was a spirit with us. Sure enough, all the equipment we had set up didn’t trigger. We tried the ESTI method to see if we could get any responses that way. This did bring one bit of interesting evidence. For those of you who don’t know what the ESTI method is, I will explain it first. The ESTI method involves listening to a radio through headphones. The difference with the radio is that it’s built to sweep backwards through the different radio waves. Spirits have been found to be able to manifest in the white noise between the different radio frequencies and speak. Using headphones allows us to focus better as we listen to the sweeping radio frequencies whilst also blocking out the sound of others asking any questions. So if someone asks a question you can’t hear, yet you hear a voice on the radio, you shout out what you have heard. On many occasions, I have seen direct responses to questions using this method. I had never seen our piece of interesting evidence using this method before. Every time we asked for a spirit to bang on something in the basement to try and get a response. The person wearing the headphones shouted out bang. I can confirm that she couldn’t hear anything as I had worn the headphones. Did this mean the spirit responding was making bangs within the white noise on the radio? It certainly is worth some thought for future investigations.

What an amazing place for an investigation. The property is so well hidden in a little corner of Wolverhampton that you wouldn’t think it was there; there is no outside sound pollution to ruin any credible evidence. I would say that it is a very active building, which, in my experience, is unsurprising, with a history at least as old as the 1300s. It is a place I will be back to investigate as I feel it has a lot of hidden history. For me, one of the most interesting pieces of evidence from the night is the K2s early on flashing in unison with each other at different points around the room in response to our questions. That was definitely paranormal, without question. It shows that spirits don’t have to touch equipment to trigger it. Obviously, nobody living or in the spirit world can split themselves into three to trigger the devices simultaneously. This means that the spirit was able to affect the EMF within the room to create spikes in energy at very specific times in response to our questions and manipulate our equipment in multiple positions around the room. All I can say to that is wow! Once again, this has been another incredible investigation.
