The hunt began with a brief inspection of the equipment we had access to, most of the items such as MEL Metres, K2s, REM PODs and thermal imaging cameras I was familiar with having used most of it before. In one group we all moved off for a preliminary walk around of the building. The building in its self was quite interesting in clear layers of energy soaked history. It was built in 1787 with the purpose of being an animal slaughter house, though its main use throughout the 1800s was a malt house.
Unfortunately the time of its construction means that a lot of the work force would have been children, so bearing this in mind a likely place for a haunting. In more recent years the building has been used as a night club but now has been transformed into an obstacle course for laser quest. Felt very strange walking around this building in the almost pitch black with all the tire walls, strange doorways, false walls, tunnels and scenery set up for laser quest, quite disorientating. Nothing happened that I noticed or felt on the walk around and we soon returned to the main base to split into our three groups, I was in group 3.
On our first vigil of the night we conducted an Ouija board session in the upper part of the building. We walked through all three rooms beforehand to find the spot we thought felt best. The first room we decided was a small room that rather smelt stale, almost like it was a residue from when it was a slaughter house. This room we had decided to try first simply as we had all felt the most uncomfortable in there. Once the board was set up we placed the glass upside down on the centre of the board and spread ourselves around the board placing our fingers lightly on the glass to build the energy. We all felt the air around the glass go icy cold almost as if the spirit was breathing upon it but the glass never moved. Next we tried with the planchet and straight away we got a little bit of movement, though the answers were unclear as the spirit seemed to like moving it most of the time where ever it wanted to. For some reason I don’t know planchets always move more than glasses. We mostly figured out that it was a man. We soon moved from here as the activity ceased, but before it did the lead investigator was struck with an image in his mind’s eye of a lady and he said it wasn’t a nice image that made him think this man wasn’t nice to women. This would be later be backed up.
We moved the Ouija board through to the first room we walked through and instantly the activity kicked off on the board. A strong female presence had come through and was moving the board really strongly, though admittedly the board moved more for some than it did for others. We learnt that she was called Sarah who had worked there when it was a slaughter house and that a man had hit her really hard in the face, not sure if any kind of weapon was used. We all made the connection with the man in the previous room as the attacker and that she was scared of him. A couple said that the left side of their jaw started to hurt after finding out about the attack as if the spirit of Sarah was making them feel how she felt. I feel that her jaw may have been broken. We asked her if we could use other forms of contact to communicate with her and she moved the planchet to yes. We then got the dowsing rods out and spread out around the room and once we had worked out which movement was for yes and no we began. First off we asked questions to identify items of clothing which were hidden on our bodies which amazingly the spirits identified. I asked if I had red on my top and the rods crossed which meant yes. That was really exciting. Soon we learnt with the rods that there was seven spirits both male and female in the room blocking every exit. Not once did the rods stop moving but because of all the different spirits we got a lot of conflicting answers. Some rods would be moving to yes whilst others to no for the same question. At one point I felt someone standing behind me and I asked if any spirit was standing behind me and the needles instantly moved to yes. That got my heart racing a little for sure! We had been investigating this area for a good few hours so having got lots of evidence we decided to close the session and head back to base.
Before the second vigil started I heard a group of 3 people talking about one of their experiences at another building and I was speechless and jealous with what they had happen, providing they weren’t lying! On a table tipping session the table with only their fingertips touching it had levitated and over quite a long period of time had walked down to the end of a long corridor. They also said they had filmed it but when they tried to watch the footage back the footage wouldn’t play. Really great if it did happen and I really hope it did.
We moved off to our second vigil of the night going down the stairs to the very far end of the building. Immediately upon entering the room I could feel something else in the room, something dark, but I think some other spirits had come to see us as this darker spirit didn’t seem to want to be known and give response. As you can guess something did happen and it was incredible! We took out all the equipment setting up around the room. I took a K2 Metre which measures electromagnetic fields which spirits have been known to be able to alter. On top of a barrel in the centre of the room we placed a REM POD. At first we didn’t get anything in the room. It was after I went over the other side of the room by myself and heard footsteps close to me that the activity began. The REM POD began to occasionally light up so we all gathered around the REM POD to see if we could use it to get intelligent responses. I did notice that it was only me and the lead investigator that were getting any response with the equipment in here which was no surprising as we were both digging deep to get responses. Whilst standing around the REM POD my K2 Metre kept spiking (the lights on the display change colour with the intensity of the energy field around it from green to red). After a while the activity went quiet again for a while so we moved around the room again and as soon as we moved the REM POD went off again. Something clearly didn’t want us to leave! This was the incredible part though. Me and the lead investigator had begun our sort of own private investigation as we were getting the responses strongly and we moved back around the REM POD closely. The REM POD went crazy! The lights shot up and the buzzer was literally screaming at us, but then the lights started to fade out really weirdly as if the energy was being sapped from it and it went dead really quickly. The lead investigator said she had never known it to do that and it freaked her out. We tried to use some other equipment but most of it had also been completely drained of power. I had never seen power get taken from a device like that it was really weird. We had caught a lot of evps in this room as well but a lot we couldn’t tell what was being said due to the voices being too distorted. Though having said that something really freaky happened, the evp recorder turned itself on and a freaky loud screaming voice came through and it wasn’t a voice we had recorded. The spirit had learnt how to use it and was using our energy to do that. Why it was screaming we never knew, but after that almost all the activity in this part of the room had died down. Me and the lead investigator took one last walk around calling out and we heard a disembodied growl which made us stand stock still and look around amazed. Throughout the session we had felt cold spots but with it being a cold building we just put that down to natural drafts. We headed back to the main base once more before third vigil and I looked back over the photos I took and one of them definitely looks like there is some form of dark mass appearing. It was just after this that I found out that the group before us in that area had seen a shadow figure close to where I captured the black mass.
The third vigil started slowly with very little happening. There was an old piano which we had hoped we could get the spirits to play as it has happened before but unfortunately we got nothing and after a while we left the area as we just felt like nothing was there. We met up with another group and did a big human pendulum session. The theory behind it is that the spirit channels its energy through you and moves you back and forth if it wants to talk through you. I was one of the people that the spirit chose and I moved into the centre of the circle. As the questions began I began to uncontrollably move back and forth. Forward meant yes and back no. It was the weirdest feeling not being in control of your own movement. The movement got really strong and others began to move at the same time on the outer circle. So we ramped up the questions asking to move six of us all at the same time and amazingly six people including me almost fell forwards. A couple in the circle had the spirit of a child playing with them and it was slowly raising their arms and you could see their arms moving clearly by themselves. We had to stop though as the night had flown by and was now fifteen minutes past two in the morning so we concluded the investigation and headed home. I would say yes to investigating this place again but not for a while as it was very draining on my energy. I would like to see if the activity is any different on another occasion. For now anyway the spirits sleep in wait of their next victims.
