The night of the ghost hunt was cool and still, under a clear starry sky. I arrived just before half-past eight and went straight inside to wait for the others. By half-past nine, everyone had arrived and was ready to investigate this great location. What an opportunity!
From the moment I crossed the threshold, I knew it was going to be a good night; the feeling of a watchful silence pressed upon my ears straight away, which was a great indicator of the activity to come. However, had I known just what I would capture, then my excitement and eagerness would have been much much more.
Once split into our three groups, we all set off for our designated areas for our first visual of the night. Upon our first walk around, we used a lot of equipment to establish the best ways to contact the spirits in the previously uninvestigated building. I took with me a MEL Metre (measures temperature and electromagnetic fields), and others took trigger objects and rem pods. First, I did a complete walk-around of the area by myself, looking for any spikes on the MEL Metre to indicate any spirit hotspots. With not much evidence recorded from the walk-around, we gathered for a group visual. In the group visual, we set about using the EVP recorder to try and capture spirit voices and what responses we got. It did not take long for the first spirit to come through. Quite clearly, it was very angry with our presence. On several occasions, we heard this male voice always saying the same thing. “Get out!” “Get out…now!” and “get out… **** you!” Hostile as the spirit was, it wasn’t going to answer our questions. However, this angry spirit was admitting a lot of energy, and not only could I feel it in the atmosphere, but I also recorded it. When I walked into a room not long after the first EVP recording, the Mel Metre triggered at last. So far, it had been a steady 60 Fahrenheit throughout the building. In less than a second, it had spiked to 1.5 mg and the temperature rocketed up to 800+ Fahrenheit then flatlined!
Occasionally the equipment we had placed around the rooms and corridors was triggering briefly, but the real highlight of the first visual that I will never forget came from a torch. At the end of the corridor, on a chair, was placed a torch. After a little while, this torch began to light up by itself; we all thought we might be able to use it as a trigger object. Within seconds of asking the spirit to turn off the torch, it turned off. We then asked it to turn back on, and as soon as we asked, it came back on. I took the Mel Metre and went very close to the torch. Although I did not get a spike, the air around the torch was clearly a lot colder. To think I stood less than a foot from perhaps where a spirit stood, maybe even staring at me, excites me so much. For half an hour, the torch continued to turn on and off at request at the same time as more aggressive EVPs. At this time, I also had my trouser leg pulled slightly. I was standing with my back to an empty room. Was it paranormal I don’t know? I am not going to conclude with that as it was very slight.
At the end of the first hour and a half, we returned to the entrance hall to regroup and discuss our findings. I had a look at some other people’s photos and my own and saw a lot of orbs. It was great to hear of what had happened to the other groups. Some of them made me feel jealous when they told me about hearing footsteps and then seeing a door open.
The second visual began shortly. This time we were on the top floor corridors. Until we found room 59, there was a lull in activity on this level. It did not take long after entering the room to get a response. Yet again, the same rough voice came across telling us to “Get out!” I reckon it was the same spirit following us around the building. After a while standing in room 59, we finally got another voice coming through for a short time. Unfortunately, it was difficult to tell what was said. At one point, I and a member of Haunted Evenings thought we heard the words “Get down.” Why we heard that we never found out. Before we left the room we observed a succession of light knocks and bangs on the doors, walls, and ceiling, though we could not say for certain that it was paranormal and not the annoying couple contaminating evidence again!
Regrouping in the corridor we conducted a very responsive experiment using dowsing rods. One by one, we took turns to walk down the corridor with the rods and see if we got any movement. Mine, I have to say, were very active, and my grip on them was very light. Not once did they move because of me. Twice on the walk down the corridor, they crossed. Once in the middle of the corridor and once outside room 59. After walking the length of the corridor, I returned to the group keeping what I had experienced quiet. So the next person went. Everybody in the end who went had their dowsing rods cross in the exact same spots. As a group, we moved to the locations where the rods had crossed, and sure enough, they all crossed again. We now called out to the spirits to use the dowsing rods to answer our questions. If the answer were yes, the rods would cross, and if it were no, they would turn outwards. First, we asked if it was female, we got a definite no. We questioned if it was male, and my rods crossed immediately. We asked whether this spirit had lived here, and my rods moved to no. We asked if he was courting a nurse in room 59, and my rods hesitated at first but then slowly moved to yes as if the spirit was reluctant to tell us. We then asked if something happened in room 59 you don’t like. Once again, my needles moved slowly to yes. Every question, we got an answer. It was incredible the responses. One of the haunted evening team members reported a sudden blast of cold air rushing upon them towards the end of the second visual.
We regrouped downstairs before the third visual. Once more, we shared our experiences. I learnt that someone had gone very faint using the Ouija board. This was the next place we were to go. We began in a small room on the top floor with the board in the centre on a table. In the pitch-black, we conducted a séance. We had no look with the board, so removed it and put the glass upside down on the table. We built some energy up in the glass asking questions. Initially, it took a while to get any movement. Before it did move, the back of my hand and the air around the glass went icy cold. Almost like someone was breathing ice-cold air on my hand. The glass moved the length of the table a couple of times then did not move again. We changed rooms. The next room provided some great evidence. Once again, we had some good movement with the glass for a short while. When we asked the spirit to move the glass to where it was standing, the glass moved to the gap, right next to me. I wasn’t scared; in fact, I smiled. We got the best responses from table tipping. Several times the table creaked on request as if it was trying to lift. Soon thumps were resonating from within the table itself. I could not believe what happened when we asked the spirit to drag their nails across the table. It shocked us all. As clear as day, we heard the delicate sound of a woman with long nails and dainty fingers drum on the centre of the table. Since this was such a good response, we used two knocks for yes, one knock for no questions, and sure enough, we got a response. We found out that she had worked there and did not mean us harm. One girl standing in the corner of the room claimed to be touched twice.
It was two in the morning, and the night had come to an end. I didn’t want it to end as I knew there was still more activity to witness. I hope, in the future, I will get a chance to revisit the location. I can almost guarantee the next time will be as active. For now, the spirits sleep in wait of the next victim.
